Psychotherapy Integration: The Art & Science of Technique Selection

9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. • 6 C.E. Hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Given the variety of techniques that many therapists use (i.e., drawing from different theories) this introductory course will present several models for combining your own array of therapy techniques.  An emphasis will be placed on how therapists can specifically improve the timing of their established techniques by matching specific techniques to the clientÕs psychological state at any given moment during the therapy session.  Research findings along with measuring instruments will be presented.  The goal of this course is to assist therapists in clarifying and making explicit their own set of practical guidelines for using psychodynamic, person-centered, experiential, cognitive and/or behavioral techniques within one over-arching model.  New and seasoned therapists alike will be encouraged throughout the course to question, explore, discuss and discover their own unifying guidelines for combining various techniques from different theories.
