Laws & Ethics Update
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. • 6.0 C.E. Hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Why did we consider titling this course, “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished”? Because many malpractice and licensing board actions occur when a therapist’s good intentions result in some sort of violation. This new intermediate course examines familiar clinical issues from a risk management perspective. The course is loaded with practical suggestions and illustrative case examples to prepare you to examine problematic issues before they arise and know what to do when clinical and ethical dilemmas present themselves. Topics are covered in the context of the law where the course takes place; that is, California law at California locations, Oregon law at Oregon locations, and Washington law at Washington locations. (If you do attend a course in a state other than the one you are licensed in, we will provide you with the handouts for your state too.)

ARE YOU REQUIRED TO TAKE THIS COURSE?

Psychologists: This course is designed to satisfy the California, Oregon, and Washington current requirement that all Psychologists complete a laws and ethics course each licensing cycle.

MFTs & LCSWs: This course is designed to satisfy the new California and Washington rule that all MFTs and Social Workers complete six or more hours of continuing education in laws and ethics each licensing cycle beginning with renewals in 2004.
