COURSE DESCRIPTION

Is there a correlation between a person’s life-style behaviors, and ones’ future medical illness? Does the relationship we have with our doctor contribute to how compliant we are to his or her medical advice? Does the manner in which we attribute the cause-effect outcomes to everyday occurrences in our lives generalize to our health and illness-related behaviors? What happens just before we die? This introductory course will take a close look at these questions—and others— as they relate to the fields of Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine. The course will provide an interactive overview of several behavior management strategies related to the modification of health and illness-related behaviors. A variety of video segments will be utilized to help clinically illustrate particular subject matter contained within this workshop, the biopsychosocial model of medicine, and the interaction between human behavior, health and illness.
